Underground Garage/Carport

These shelters are our main product line and make up about 85% of our total business. We feel these shelters are the top of the line of this style, both in safety and performance. This type shelter is available in three sizes and each size is readily AVAILABLE FOR EXISTING HOMES AND NEW CONSTRUCTION APPLICATIONS. This makes this style shelter the favorite for developers and home builders as the new construction install is a fast and simple process prior to pouring the garage slab. The retro install ( in an existing home ) is also a large part of our business and under normal conditions can be totally completed in a single day. Other than for possibly the benches and steps, the entire shelter is constructed totally of steel. Our shelters are constructed of 11 gauge steel, unlike most of our competitors, who typically use a thinner 12 gauge steel. We use 11 gauge because to thicker metal makes a big difference in the strength of the long walls when applying the force and pressure of concrete to them. All of our underground, garage shelters are standard with a light, fan, and come along winch, as convenience features. As most of our competitors use metal benches, which are easier and less expensive than the alternative, we decided that comfort while seated is an important feature. The seating in every underground, garage shelter that we produce is made from wood, wrapped with padding and carpet. Lastly, our most important standard upgrade is the most important, according to client feedback. As most shelter fabricators choose to coat the visible surfaces of their shelters with a basic black or grey primer, we made the commitment to provide the best possible completed product. Although our finish process is time consuming and expensive, we won’t put cost savings ahead of a great, finished product. Our finish method takes on another process. After we coat the exposed areas with the typical industrial primer, which is dark and gloomy, we take an extra step. Our last production process is to add a coat of white enamel paint. This has several advantages for the client including the ease of cleaning, a nicer appearance, and most importantly, the inside feels much brighter and larger. To assure against leaks, all shelters are treated with a two part dye, at every weld. After a 24 hour period, the dye is checked for the potential of any air penetration in the welds. After the dye has proven to us that there are no leaks, we apply the final exterior coating. To assure the entire exterior surface of the shelter is completely coated, we apply the final layer of water protection by hand. This is a two part mixture of epoxy/tar, and is recommended by the US Army Corp. of Engineers as an excellent water barrier for submerged metals (the same product they use to coat oil wells and bridges that are exposed to water penetration). This coating forms a complete moisture barrier, preventing any water from coming into contact with any type of exposed metal, stopping to potential for rust and leakage.

The great popularity of this type shelter is due to several things. Most importantly, these shelters must be installed under a roof, typically a garage or carport. This allows quick access to the shelter without the need to go outside into the dangerous storm to do so. Also a nice feature is the spaces used for installation. These shelters install directly under a parked car and take up no usable space from your carport or garage. If you wonder if you have room for one of these shelters, it is a simple answer.. If you can park a car in your garage/carport, we can install a shelter there! The lid is the same size on all three sizes ( 3’ wide ) so regardless of the size shelter that best meets your needs, your vehicle will park safely above the shelter, out of the way. With this design, and with your vehicle parked as far forward in the garage as possible, you should be able to always access the shelter without the need to move your vehicle as well.
